ARTstor Enhancements
* Enhancements to the Digital Library *
We are very pleased to announce that we will release a number of
enhancements to the ARTstor Digital Library tonight. While we update the ARTstor application with new features, you may experience a temporary loss of access to the ARTstor Digital Library. We expect the application to be fully restored and available by 8:00 AM on Thursday, August 3rd.
Enhancements are concentrated in the following areas: the Welcome Page, Searching and
Browsing, Viewing Results, and Personal Collections.
Welcome Page
- The newly restructured Welcome Page provides additional information
about using ARTstor and about ARTstor collections.
Searching and Browsing
- Our enhanced advanced search allows users to create more specific
queries that result in more accurate search results. Users may now
refine a search by date or a date range, or choose to search within
specific collections, specific geographic areas, and within object
classifications.
- New to the Digital Library, cross-collection browsing by Geography
and Classification. These new options are available from the Welcome
Page and afford new ways of discovering ARTstor content.
- Users may browse the Image Gallery by its source collections.
Clicking on The Image Gallery from the Welcome Page will display the
list of archives, libraries, museums, individuals, and institutions
that contribute the various collections which comprise the Image
Gallery.
Viewing Search Results
- Users have the option to sort search results by date in addition to
existing sorts by creator or title of the works.
- If search results reach 1,000 or more images, users may view the
first 1,000 images or refine their search using the new Advanced
Search.
Personal Collections
- Instructor-level users have the ability to upload audio files (MP3)
to their Personal Collections.
- Instructor-level users will have an additional 500 MB of space for
their Personal Collections, raising the total amount to 1 GB of space
on ARTstors servers for images, audio files, and OIV presentations.
Our online help (www.artstor.org/webhelp) and the documentation
found in the Using ARTstor section of our public website will be
updated by the end of the day Thursday.
