Addition to ARTstor from Art Resource

* New Addition to the ARTstor Digital Library: European art and
architecture from Art Resource, Scala Archives *

ARTstor recently announced a collaboration with Art Resource and Scala
Archives (Florence, Italy) (http://www.artstor.org/info/collections/scala_announce.jsp).
Through this collaboration, ARTstor will make available approximately
12,000 high quality images of European art and architecture, with a
special focus on the archaeology, art and architecture of Italy and on
the collections of the major museums of Italy and other European
countries.

The first fruits of this collaboration are now available to ARTstor
users. They include more than 1,100 high quality images of major works
of Italian and other European art.

To convey some sense of the range and depth of this expanding
collection, there are already

- more than 60 new images of or relating to works by Botticelli
- more than 50 new images of or relating to works by Caravaggio
- more than 30 new images of or relating to works by Correggio
- more than 40 new images of or relating to works by Mantegna
- more than 80 new images of or relating to works by Raphael
- more than 275 new images of works from the Uffizi Gallery
- more than 25 new images of works from the Louvre

We anticipate releasing another approximately 2,000 Scala images in
late 2006 or very early 2007.

To browse these new ARTstor images, please click on ?Image Gallery? on
the ARTstor ?welcome page? and then select ?Italian and European Art
from Scala Archives.? Or simply search such keyword phrases ?Scala
Florence? or (for an individual artist) "Scala Botticelli" etc.

Please note that we are hard at work "clustering" these superior
images with other ARTstor images that depict the same works of art.
For an example of this clustering process, through which we are
striving to help ARTstor users find the optimal image of a given work
of art, please search for "Raphael Disputa Scala".
